Minecraft:New Seattle
New Seattle is the largest city on the Sporkscraft server. It is jointly owned by all empires in accordance with the terms of the Treaty of New Seattle.
History
New Seattle was founded in YOLD 3180 by a man who is called Alexander the Architect (aji). He created it as a place to build enormous skyscrapers. As his interest in minecraft waned, and the server began expanding in that direction, there were requests by others to build on his area. Thus, the Treaty of New Seattle was drafted and signed by all nations on the server.
The first building in New Seattle was the ajitek building. The second was the Elizacorp Building.
Landmarks
New Seattle is home to many supertall skyscrapers, some of which are based on real skycrapers. Notable ones include:
- The Vagina Building, based off Chicago's Crain Communications Building
- The Ajitek Building, loosely based off the Empire State Building
- The New Seattle Housing Projects, where the poor of the city live
- The Nexus - a transportation network using teleportation
- New Seattle parliament
- New Seattle city hall
The city also boasts other major landmarks:
- New Seattle Station, a major transportation hub
- New Seattle Bridge, a pier-supported bridge with a large arch to admit drilling rigs
- New Seattle Docks, with the green line of the MORON system underneath
- Canal docks, a port on the Malaclypse Interior Waterway and the city's primary connection to it
Gay clubs
New Seattle is world-renowned for its gay scene. The scene includes these clubs:
- The Rusty Trombone Club
- The Hot Dog Stand
- Prince (under construction)
- DVNO
- La Lacune Glorie (obstensibly a straight club)
- The Dancefloor, a dance hall and radio station
Transportation
New Seattle has an extensive rail network known as the MORON system, servicing New Seattle and Bell's End in Erisiana. It is also connected to the Malaclypse interior waterway. E-10 goes through the city and over the New Seattle Bridge, as does a spur of the Ancien Central Railway. The transportation network is maintained by Erisiana under the terms of the Treaty of New Seattle.
There is an airport under construction, under joint ownership of Erisiana and Foxdale.
The grid
New Seattle has a grid system, the only one of its kind. The grid begins at Aurum St. and Astley Ave. Streets running east to west are named for famous cities, past and present, in Sporksland, in alphabetical order. Streets running north to south are named for famous Internet phenomenon in alphabetical order. Street numbers increase by 100 for every block encountered going east to west, and go up by 1000 for every street going north to south. Buildings north or west of Aurum and Astley get a W. or N. prefix affixed to their name.
Governance
New Seattle is governed by the terms of the Treaty of New Seattle. It is a condominium of all nations on the server. The government meets in parliament irregularly in the parliament building near New Seattle Station, not far from The Nexus. Parliamentary offices are co-located in the parliament building.
